I'm trying to recover someone's emails. She just got upgraded to a new computer and pulled her .PST over. When I try to open it, Outlook says to run scanpst. I ran that on the pst and it only recovers half of the files. Before I do scanpst, it is 450 mb, after I scan it, it is still 450 mb, but there are only 11 mb worth of emails in the file. Any help is appreciated,
Thanks

Don't concern yourself with the file size. If you haven't compacted it, it may be larger than what you think it should be.
If running the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) doesn't recover all the data, then the file is damaged to the point where the data isn't recoverable.
Open the pst as a secondary, copy whatever data has been salvaged, and delete the bad file.
Install the pfbackup utility from Microsoft and give the backup responsibility to the user. That way, in a perfect world, her email will be recoverable if this file corruption should repeat.
Life is more painless for those who are brainless.
