My collegue was browsing her "add or remove programs" and discovered that although she installed Office 2003 yesterday, she still had Office 2000 installed. So, she clicked "remove" for all Office 2000 components.
But then when she opened her Outlook, all her emails had disappeared.
She discovered that her PST file had disappeared when she uninstalled Office 2000.
Does anyone know how to retrieve an uninstalled PST file? (it's not in the recycle bin).
(I did a windows search for "*.PST" and found a backup from may last year - but it still means the previous 8 months' emails have gone - can anyone help?)
I'm not young enough to know everything.

The pst file isn't stored with the MSOffice files.
If your friend didn't change the default path, it should be located here:
Documents and Settings
Username
Local Settings
Application Data
Microsoft
OutlookRight click on her Outlook icon, and select Properties, then Data Files. If the file isn't listed there, Click on Add, and browse to the location I just showed you.
Please post back with the results...

Hi Jennifer
Thanks for your help.
Unfortunately there is no PST file in that location. Files there include:
- extend.bat
- microsoftoutlookinternetsettings.FAV and .NICK and .MK2 and .RWZ and .srs and .xml
- outcmd.bat
- outlook.srs
- OutlPrnt (no extension for this one). She's definitely logged in as the correct user. Do you have any other ideas?
(Also if it helps, my workmate said she just tried setting up a POP3 email account and Outlook was running so slow it took 30 mins).

The file may be hidden. Make sure that in Explorer you have it set to show all files...including hidden system files..

I checked and yes, it is definitely showing hidden files and folders.
How frustrating that the pst folder isn't there!

Oooo... making progress...
My workmate had skipped the /local settings/ part when following the address.
Fingers crossed - she's trying now to import the pst file that's there.I'm not young enough to know everything.
