Hello all

When I mail merge I often need to go back to my data source (my excel sheet) and edit a copple of things. Is there anyway to reload/update the data source with a shortcut or something? At the moment I need to go to select recipients -> use existing list -> select the sheet I want to merge from. It would be a nice feature if I just could click a refresh-button or something similar to reload the data source.

Is there such a feature in Word?

I don't know of any "refresh" feature. I have always done it the same way you do it, by basically starting over. I just asked my assistant who does mail merges all the time and she doesn't know of any way to refresh the source either.

That said, neither of us are Word experts and there aren't that many Words experts that hang around in this forum. I don't mean this to sound harsh, but please, go someplace else. ;-)

In other words, there are a few forums directly dedicated to Word where MS MVP's hang out. Perhaps they know of a better way to accomplish your goal.

Here is one such group, but there are certainly others:!f...

If you do find an answer, it would be nice if you could come back here and post the solution in this thread, even though I just sent you packing. :-)

Okay thank you for the heads up. I will seekout and come back with the answer if I find one to this question. But certainly its annoying to start all over again, so hope there is someway to do this.

Okay ive got some help. Here is what I got:

I have one thing to add to the first suggestions, where you only have to have the excel sheet open first and then open the mail merge document after that.

That is true, but I can see that such things like the bug with, that Word only reads the first line and if there is a number and there is text and numbers in a combi later, that will result in a 0. This won't be updated with this solution, you have to reload the it the long and hard way as mentioned in #1.

How can I mark this thread as solved?
