Dear All,

sorry if this is a common known problem but I can't find an authorative solution

I bought a PC 2 years ago with Office oem installed and now I have had to resinstall Windows due to malware.
Is it possible to reobtain Office - I have no disk only a disk case with product key ?
I did reinstall Windoes 18 months ago as well and dont' remember having a problem

Do you have the Recovery CD that usually comes with a bundled system?

That should set your PC back to where it was when you purchased it. It's not the ideal way to rebuild a system, but it should get Office back for you.

thansk for advice, derbydad,
I don't think I have a recovery disk though - only windows vista

microsoft pointed me to here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326...
though it seems to say for my oem office contact the PC maker and I don't want to do that - they won't be helpful.

I might try this later where it says I can just download it and enter my product code
http://hubpages.com/hub/How-to-rein...

does this sound like it might work - if so why didn't microsoft just tell me this ?

if that fails I might be able to get an office Cd from work or just use openoffice

ta again for help

I can't say whether the hubpages site will work.

I've never tried it and I can't access it from work due to corporate filters.

Good luck!

Hi,

You should call the PC maker as they are responsible for oem software from MS.

I don't see why they should be unhelpful. If they did not provide you with a copy of the installed software, but gave you a key, then they should be prepared to provide the software for recovery purposes.

Its not going to cost you to ask them.

Just be persistent, after all you did pay for the software!

Regards

thanks for the suggestion, Humar, but it will be hopeless
its Eclipsecomputers of Coventry, UK
google then and you'll see their reputation ( though the PC mags love them)

they won't answer phones or emails, once they've got your money they are not interested
my PC arrived witha faulty graphics card and they delayed me beyond the collect and return with suggestions like contact the monitor maker and then refused to deal with it unless I sent it to them and paid for the postage myself.

that link doesn't work either
says "We are sorry, but we are unable to complete your request. The following problem(s) exist:

The product key you’ve entered does not appear to be a valid key for this program. This program is only for Medialess licence kits – not standard retail products.
The product could not be found."

whatever that means
never mind I can get office free from work on the grounds I'd be using it for work use (which I would - after all its not a fun product)
sorry to have taken all your time

re: This program is only for Medialess licence kits – not standard retail products.

What this means is that the key is for a copy of Office that would have come bundled with a PC.

re: after all its not a fun product

Ack! Blasphemy! Away with you! Leave our forum!

Some of us actually find many of the Office products fun to use. Do you think we'd answer questions in this forum if we didn't enjoy it?

OK, call us weird...
