Publisher won't open .pub file

Hi there A client has given me a publisher file to convert to a PDF, which I've done many times before. However when I try to open this particular publisher file I get an error message: "Publisher cannot open files from a different version." I'm using Publisher 2000 and have never come across this before. Is there any kind of workaround?? My guess is that maybe I've been given a publisher XP or 2003 file and it's not compatable with my Publisher 2000 programme???? Can anyone help? The only other option I have at this stage is scanning the 20 page hard-copy and convert that into a PDF (argh!!).
