Hi there,
I have a problem and maybe you could help me out. I have a mail merged document which I partially wish to protect from altering. When I protect the document, I can protect sections of the document. The thing is that when I protect the document, I can't mail merge anymore, even though the parts that need to be merged are unprotected. The mail merge taskbar is simply grayed out. Is this an office limitation or is there another way to achieve my goal. Thanx in advance!!

even though only parts of the merge database are protected, word doesn't detect the unprotected areas. During a merge, word has to use pointers to keep track of where it is in the list. in order to do that the file can't be protected (read only).
