I am having problems opening Excel, Word and PowerPoint. It is taking over a minute for anything to happen and then it comes up with a message saying...'cannot find file ****, (or any of its components)'. I have managed to open them on another machine, with no problem. When it finally opens, all I get is a blank grey screen and I have to use Task Manager, to clear it.

Check your virus scanner. Norton 2002 & 2003 are known to really mess with Office files.
You can turn the scan off in Norton to test this.
