Problem upgrading from OS 10.2.8 to OS 10.4

So I've been tryin to upgrade my os from 10.2.8 to 10.4. I have a burned dvd version of 10. .and every thing cool up to the restart. Once it restarts all I get is a blank screen? What do I do? Should I and how do i do a clean install?
