PowerPoint 2003 and avi files

Odd situation. I have several .avi files taken from a GE Ultrasound machine. I have them stored on a fixed place on my latop. I have inserted the same avi file into two different powerpoint presentation. The film and the presentations have remained in the same location since being created. I can play the film in one presentation and not in the other. I have removed the link to the avi in both presentations and reinserted them and still have the same problem. I am totally baffled about this one...

Open the Powerpoint file, also open the explorer to location where the .avi file is stored, adjust both the windows so that the you can see both windows on your monitor.
Go to the slide in your powerpoint file, drag the file from location and drop it on the slide. Run slideshow and see if you are able to view the .avi file.
For further troubleshoot please define the error message when running the .avi file.
