I have 4 columns on my spreadsheet. I need to take each row in column B and look for a match in column A. If a match is found, I need to update column d(on the row with the number used for the search column b) with the value of column c on the row where the match was found in column A.
col a col b col c col d
1234 12356 desc1 desc3
1432 1231 desc2
12356 1230 desc3

You've ask twice for the same info, the only way I can figure is you would need some type of VBA code .
I don't think a regular formula will work.

I vaguely remember a similar question a few weeks ago, don't recall if it ever got an answer, but you could try searching the past posts and see if anything comes up.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what's wrong with VLOOKUP?

=VLOOKUP(B1,$A$1:$C$3,3,0) would return desc3 in D1.
