When I want to permanently delete an email message from Outlook 2000, I delete the message and then empty the deleted items folder. Is there a more secure way to be sure a sensitive email message has been wiped competely from my system with no traces or chance of recovery?

First are you using a POP3 email account, or one on a corporate email server? Depending on how they post and run back-ups there could possibly be a record of it somewhere. The other concern would be the settings you have for Outlook. If you have an auto backup enabled or archiving there could be a recoveable copy in your archives. The FBI has proven there are very few methods that are 100% secure and unrecoverable. If someone out there has any easy ideas I hope they are reading this too. You would have to make sure that all of your historical files and archives are erased and then do data wipes on the empty area. If you are working with corporate email there has been work on the legality of being required to have copies of any emails for possible liability.
