Paste greyed out in Word 2002

OS: XP Pro
CPU/Ram: Pent 4 -512

The Paste choice is greyed out in the drop-down list under Edit. I have to open The Clipboard and paste from there. How do I make the Paste choice available?
I deleted the normal.dot file--didn't solve the problem.
I logged onto the machine with another already existing account, and paste works fine.
I created another user account on the machine and opened Word, but Paste is still unavailable.

If you are on the internet at the time, some web sites will disable the paste operation to pervent people from copying from thier site.
