I have a requirement to download plain text files from an AS400 so that they can be printed on A5 paper. My problem is that no matter how I seem to set the lines-per-page on the page-setup screen in MS Word, my document starts to 'creep' after a couple of pages in print preview, so that by the time it gets to the 8th page, it's totally out of alignment. Am I doing something silly? The document is an unbroken stream of pages, with the same number of lines per page, and no page breaks.

Is it possible to insert page-breaks every x lines in a document?

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry about this - I've just noticed that the files can be either 16, 17 or 18 lines each, so that would explain the 'creep'.

The first line of each page has the words 'BOOK ORDER' on it. Would that help in being able to insert page breaks, other than having to insert them manually, as the file is several hundred pages long.

Yes, it is possible to add page breaks. Actually counting lines should work as long as you don't have any 'long' lines (either physically longer (margins too narrow) or virtually longer (usually caused by proportionally spaced fonts)). Years ago I found that Word was far from the best for the job. What is best is a plain 'text' editor.

I've noticed that the additional lines are caused by actual extra lines, instead of the line spilling over into the next one. Is there a way to insert a page break before a particular string?

If you are willing to waste paper and have each page start with 'BOOK ORDER', then search for 'BOOK ORDER' and replace it with page break + 'BOOK ORDER'. I don't use Word regularly so I don't remember the symbol for page break.

Ctrl-Enter inserts a hard page break.

I did a search for 'BOOK ORDER' and replaced it with ^m (manual page break) then added 'BOOK ORDER' as a header on each page - seems to have done the trick. Thank you all for your help.
