Hi, I am running Outlook 2000 on an old computer and I want to transfer all of my messages to my new computer using Outlook Express 6. I realise to do this you use "File" Export but do you use Comma Separated for DOS or WIndows or Tab Separated Value for DOS or WIndows ?????
Then import the file into Outlook Express.Any Suggestions ????

Close but not quite, better to Open Outlook Express and use the File\Import command.
This bypasses the need to go to another (csv) format. It is also able to import messages, addresses and account settings.

Hi, Close but no cigars ! I tried that but I get an error message "Import Messages" "Messages cannot be imported from the MAPI client. An error has occurred.
Any other suggestions?????????????????

Thats not good, mine worked perfectly. Hate to say it but, it appears that one or the other of your installations might be corrupt.
As far as .csv files, i can't find a method from within Express to import them.

I'm looking at the same problem.
I backed up from a laptop with Outlook, exporting the messages to a PST file.
I got a new laptop with Outlook Express and want to import the PST...
Reading the internet it seems that you need Outlook installed on the computer where you want to import a pst-file into Outlook Express...
In other words, an Outlook pst file saved on a computer with Outlook installed (obviously) cannot be imported on another computer with only Oulook Express installed (less obvious). Can anyone add to that MS logic?

If there's no MAPI client configured, you can create a profile under Control Panel -> Post.
Choose Profiles and add a new profile. There is no need to connect an existing email address to the profile.
Once you've done that, the error message should be gone.
Import the file with File -> Import -> Messages -> Exchange. Eventually Express will ask for a .pst file.

What if there is no Post / Mail option?
What Operating System are you referring to?
This guy is on Win98, as am I and there is no post/mail option in Control Panel. I have a friend who has the same problem under XP, will he have a Post/Mail component in Control Panel?
