I would like to know if there is a way to create one single rule to perform the below function.
Example: I work with Navy contracts and have a folder setup in outlook for all 300 ships in the Navy. I need one outlook rule setup (currently i am maxed out for outlook rules to handle these individually) to detect "USS" in the subject line, and take the last part / move the message to the ships folder. For instance, an email arrives wtih USS Enterprise in the subj line. I need to be able to detect USS and move the message to the Enterprise folder. Is there any kind of wildcard that can be set up to detect USS SHIPNAME?Wayne C.

Set the rule to move anthing with USS in the Subject to the Enterprise folder. Very simple.

Boy I wish it were that simple. That rule would make everything with USS in the subject line move to the Enterprise folder. If i receive an email from the USS Ronald Reagan, i want to direct it to the Ronald Reagan folder. The problem is right now i have rules set individually for each ship. Outlook has a maximum size for rules, and will not allow me to create 300 rules to cover all 300 or so ships in the navy.

not exactly a solution here, but there is one way around this.
You can sort by the subject line and file the appropriate emails in the appropriate folders.
In other words, you already have 300 in boxes for the different ships.
You already are sorting per USS *.* for the folders that you can.
The remaining folders that you can't create rules for can be sorted by subject line and filed in the correct inbox folder.
It's probably what you are already doing, but if not I wanted to give you an alternate method for your current problem.

Since you're limited by the number of rules, you could consider writing a script that runs based on "USS" in the Subject... and running that script will then move emails to the appropriate folder.

Any pointers as to how I should write a script and execute in Outlook. I have never written scripts in outlook before.
Thanks for the advice!!
