Hi, I'm trying to get my pst from Outlook into Outlook Express. When I select File -> Messages -> Import -> Microsoft Outlook, I get an error that says "Messages cannot be imported from the MAPI client".

What's a MAPI client? Thanks!!

Kayla

Are you doing: File, Import, Messages, Microsoft Outlook, and you do indeed have Outlook installed and configured on your machine? If it's not installed, do you at least have a Mail profile configured on the computer?

There are several causes for this error, but first reply back with the answers to my questions, and I can help you further.

Also, is your pst file indeed located on your HDD?

Yes, I am doing File, Import, Messages, Microsoft Outlook. I do have Outlook Express installed on my computer (not Outlook, that's on another computer). Outlook Express is connected to webmail through the University of Florida via imap. I don't have any other mail profile configured on the computer.

The pst file is currently saved on my desktop.

Any ideas? I'm basically trying to get both my old messages and address book onto this machine. Thanks!

I asked if you had Outlook installed on your machine. Outlook Express can't import from a program that's not installed, regardless of whether or not the data file exists on the system. You need to have Outlook installed in order for the Import to work successfully. If you don't, you'll either need to install it, or go back to the other machine and export all your Outlook Messages, Calendar, Notes, Tasks, Contacts, etc into another program from which Outlook Express can import...such as Eudora, Outlook Express (obviously), Netscape mail, etc. Then you can import those files after copying them onto your new machine. Easiest thing to do: Install Outlook on the new machine.
