Is compact necessary in order to reduce the size of the .PST file or the deletion of messages would work.
I want to know if outlook automatically compacts the .PST after deletion or not.

Both compacting and deleting emails work to decrease the size of the pst file.

Compacting must be done manually.

You need to manually compact to shrink your pst file. Deleting/Emtpying Deleted Items alone won't reclaim that space.
