I posted this to another forum and it was suggested it may be of help to this forum - so here goes, ignore it if it isn't!
-----------
Ok so after a hideous PC crash I not only lost all my files but more importantly my emails. So I went around looking for a backup solution. You’d think this’d be easy but Outlook is apparently a pig to back up. I did the usual thing of downloading a few trials and even paying for a really cr@p piece of software, before finding something that suited. Hopefully this list should help people in the same position as me choose the right backup system for them.SecondCopy (Commercial)
www.secondcopy.com *Looked good and appeared to do the business but I found out it wasn’t touching my Outlook file even though it said it was! Confusing to setup, not my first choice but it was recommended to me so someone must like it. . . .
Cobian backup (Freeware)
www.handybackup.com **Not too bad but despite advertising as freeware it’s actually shareware - Could cope with Outlook sometimes but not always.
MyBackup (Commercial)
www.mswanson.com ***Liked this one but again it’s shareware advertised as freeware
Genie Backup (Commercial)
www.genie-soft.com ****Very nearly my top choice – backed up outlook, and looked good but wasn’t freeware
Indigo backup (Freeware)
www.indigoprime.co.uk *****The best of the bunch but a little complex to set up, probably because it’s meant to be a freeware enterprise backup solution. Sooo many options with a rollback thingy, backed up outlook no problems!
------------------------
So after all this my recommendations: Don’t pay for backup software, there is good stuff out there for free – just google! Hope that helps, if you have any recommendations I’d like to here them!

Go with Indigo Backup it's way cool :)
They had it at this company I contracted at and it just did the business no issues or nothing.
I nicked a copy and been usin it since then!
Result!!! :)

Tabby,
Indigo Backup is more of a piece kind of free enterprise backup software.
That doesn't mean it can't be used for personal backup stuff, it's just that it has a lot of control software you can add on.
The difference between enterprise backup software and personal backup software is that enterprise backup software uses administrative control features so you can have a centralised admin controlling all backups. Personal backup software is 'wild' and has no centralised control. Also, enterprise backup software (like Indigo Backup) has a lot of extra features you wouldn't normally see on personal backup software. As a result enterprise backup software is usually out of the financial reach of the home user.
Ps. sorry about above post hit wrong keys on confirmation
