I'm a literate IT user, but this one has got me. The PC is new, running XP, Outlook and all the latest, greatest patches from the MS site. Still, I have a really annoying problem, where the "mail-to" link fails to work. When I try to follow the link, I get, a dialogue box which says:- "
Problem with Shortcut. The Mail program was unable to send mail.
Just incase you ask, in Outlook, I have set it so that Outlook (and not Outlook Express) is the default mail program. Likewise, in Explorer, I have TRIED to do the same but I see a problem. Namely the little drop down box under "Programs" has a BLANK next to e-mail. Try as I might, I cannot select anything. This is a new problem...as the whole system used to work well, but not now . Outlook is running perfectly as a stand alone mail program, but it gets infuriating when I try to follow an E-mail link from a web site to be met the pop up. (I then have to cut and paste...)
All the best (hope you can help)

Hi Steve
I'd say it is a registry glitch.
Run REGEDIT and go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\mailtoOn right hand screen, the default should be
REG-SZ URL:MailTo ProtocolThen on left hand screen, click shell, then open, then command
"%ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /mailurl:%1
The above example is set for Outlook Express, but yours should have the path for Microsoft Outlook.
The most important thing here is that /mailurl:%1 is written at the end of your path line.
