Outlook configuration question!
I have a company email PC. Its running Outlook 2000 on 2k.
This PC is connecting over a LAN using ADSL connection, not important but I know we all like detail!
POP connection is to one ISP only.
SMTP is going out over the ADSL provider, it works fine.
Both companies have mail forwarding going to the same account in-bound.

There are 2 companies sharing this PC. I need to be able to send mail from both of them so that it shows very separate company details when the email is received!

Now I had this working fine using Express 6.
I’ve exported mail, folders and both account settings with no problems and imported into Outlook 2k, but when using the From field to select the Sender, Outlook puts the default company address in the address.

When viewed in the In-Box it shows what was selected in the From Field, great.
When you reply to the email it selects what was sent using the From field great.

In the preview pane it shows the other companies address, very bad.
When you open the email it shows you the other company address at the beginning and the On behalf of “correct address” at the end! Better but not good enough!

I had this set-up working fine with Express 6 but is there a way around this in Outlook 2000 ?

The objective is 2 people from 2 different companies use 1 PC for email, no restarts of Outlook, no logoffs etc… just done from within Outlook.

Why is outlook such a cow, moooooooh.

Thanx for any help

If both users are using the same login (why, oh why...) just set up two individual profiles in Outlook.

Control Panel
Mail
Profiles

Then, when Outlook is opened, it will prompt for the profile that should be used.

Well thanx 4 the quick reply Jennifer
But, I didn't bring up profiles cos I thought as I did mention about in my post
"no restarts of Outlook, no logoffs etc"

The trouble with using a profiles unless I'm very wrong is it means when your logged into one profile the other account is not logged in and can not access its pop3 etc.!
Mail will not be downloaded in the background! Am I wrong?

The way these guys work is its an open office and its not a problem for this PC to be open to all eyes etc.

It is important for mail for both companies to be delivered to the one in-box in their absence!
BIG attachments means waiting a long time after just logging in!
There are also issues with their mailbox size on the ISP’s mail server to think about!

The PC stays on and no logouts or logging into various profiles!

Not the best way to work, but that's the way they want it! as they say, the customer is always right!

Hope I am wrong and you can tell me so, as I have to sort it out tomorrow! Errrr

Thanx again.

Okay. I misundertood.

Maybe I got it now..

Create two email accounts from within Outlook. I'm assuming (since you didn't specify) that they are both using the same email account. So, the two accounts will be identical with the exception of the company name and info. Change that accordingly.

Then, when a user composes a new email, he/she clicks on the Accounts option in the new mail window and selects the proper company account to send from.

Is that better? LOL

Job is done! :)
But! As I don't get to work with Outlook that much found it a bit of a pain :(

I could not get it working the way I wanted to or the way you suggested in Outlook 2000, might have been a bad install but I just don't know if it supports the select Account option!? This was a small business version?

So had to go through the pain of installing Outlook XP !

The XP install sounds like it just might kill the previous install so exported out the PST! not that big a deal I hear you say but when it came just over a GIG ! it took some time arghhhh. But in the end it didn't actually even remove the accounts or folders or the PST etc...

This strange config is a pain, but in the end I got there. An option to login to Exchange at startup if required! and when not selected NOT to keep prompting a login after the timeout! 2 companies configurations working along side with no probs and not to mention the Account selection when addressing mail.

A bit sressed but its working... Yipeeee

Thanx again for the info Miss ear basher ;) Hehe.
