We recently joined our corporate headquarters’ Exchange. But, when we started configured our user’s Outlook 2003, we noticed that it changed/added the folder names in the Favorite Folders with an extension of ‘in Personal Folders’. For example, folder name went from ‘Folder_Name’ to ‘Folder_Name in Personal Folders”. Is this an Outlook feature? Is there a way to have it default to just the folder name w/o the ‘in Personal Folders’ extension?

Thanks….

I've not worked with Exchange in over 9 years, but you should be able to go into the properties of the folder and rename it to whatever you want.

I've tried that and it has the original 'folder_name' w/o the in Personal Folders extension. And, if you try to rename it, it'll only rename the 'folder_name'. Some how I believe this is a default by design of the program. But, I need to make sure so I can sell this to the directors. Thanks.

My guess is that because you switched to Exchange, and those folders were in the original Personal Folder file (pst), the current name of the folder indicates as such. As opposed to the Exchange ost file where the mail is stored.

So, I did some testing and created a new account for our AD and Exchange. It looks like this problem doesn't occur when creating a new Outlook Exchange Email profile. It only happens when our users (most of them) had the IMAP Email account. FYI, we're still using our IMAP, a few of our users are getting both the Exchange and IMAP Email. Also, it looks like user's don't even get the 'Personal Folders' on Exchange only Outlook.

Could this be a design by Microsoft?

Could be and is. Exchange doesn't use Personal Folder (pst) files.
