Try doing a repair on Internet Explorer. The files are integrated and you use Ie to repair OE alos.

Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel> Add/Remove. Select IE and do a repair.

That may help.

I do not see a repair option...When clicking on IE it says change or remove. When I click on that it says "This prgram uninstalls Q867801 and restores your previous configuration? Do you want to uninstall Q867801?"
Is this what I want to do?

No, that's a Security Update. You need to find the Add/Remove for Microsoft Internet Explorer.

If you have copy of IE 6 or even 5, try reinstalling it accepting all the defaults on the install. That may help.

i have a similar problem.

here's the skinny:
WIN2K
Outlook 2002
Pentium 4

Whenever i open outlook it comes up with not responding after a few seconds. It usually does a "send/receive" and hangs at 83%. I can go through the menu items and make changes in OPTIONS but as soon as i attempt to click on a folder or view an email it hangs and i have to close the program. so at this point i can do nothing with outlook.

i tried the "repair" solution given above but that did not help.

i do have a lot of emails in all my folders, i'm thinking that could be the problem, but i can't get into the folders to delete them.

i'm also doing a virus scan as i type and i have a virus scan on my incoming email so i don't believe that could be the problem.

please help, i have to have this email thing fixed asap. thanks

jim

Quite often, there is an e-mail hung in the Outbox.

Try deleting all the messages in the Outbox first.

If you have to go into the Safe Mode to do it, it will be OK.

Do Not go online before trying to delete them, as once your connection is active Outlook won't let you delete them.

If all else fails, trying going to the web site of your e-mail and logging on there and deleting any emails there.

For example: Earthlink has a web site where you can check your e-mail.

You may have to resort to deleting the outbox.dbx thru Windows Explorer.

Outlook will rebuild it when you reopen it, but any messages will be gone, so use that as a last resort.

I didnt have a copy of IE but I read on and tried the safe mode option & somehow that worked. So thanx heaps Larry, your a legend.
My only prob now is since getting back into OE, I cant save normal jpg attachments to file. Hopefully its only a box I need to re-tick somewhere. I'm only new at this PC thing so am slowly feeling my way....

Can you open a JPEG attachment?

Do you get an error message?

Tell me the circumstances and I'll try and figure it out.

I had a play and ended up going into Tools/Options/Security & unticked a box to do with saving files/attachments & that seemed to work.
My Outlook still freezes at times so I dont think I totally fixed it. Once I got back in & cleaned out all the folders, it still froze occassionally when I clicked on Sent Items or Deleted Items.
This morning I read my mail then came back a few hours later & Outlook Express is Not Responding again.
I went into Add/Remove & Outlook Express isnt even in there, so who knows what I've done with that!
Am going to try the safe mode thing again & go from there....

Hello Again,
Tried the Safe Mode without success this time.
Alot of the time now when i'm in the middle of doing something I get the "microsoft has encountered a problem & has to close" box. It happens when I'm on the net, trying to open OE6 & even cut off my AVGscan in the middle of it.

Could there be a virus or some other prob.

I have run AVG, Adware6 & Spybot and didnt find anything.

I dont know what more I can do....

If you have System Restore set to on turn that off.

Run your virus check from the Safe Mode.

If you can, swap your memory sticks out.

Thanx Larry

Dont know how to swap menory sticks but I
ran all my scans in Safe Mode whilst System Restore turned off. This cleaned up alot, found some hidden bugs that werent found the first time.

OE is opening fine & letting me read, save and play with emails. All aspects running fine except Deleted Items only lets me in if it is empty. Cant click on it if it has content in there, thats when OE freezes & stops responding.

However, I dont have to go into Safe Mode to unblock OE. I can open it again as long as I stay away of Deleted Items or empty it through Edit.

Havent had the Microsoft Error since
