When i tried to start Outlook 97 it gave me the following error message: "Outllib.dll is linked to a missing export Mapi32.dll:239"
Following Microsoft's instructions. I renamed the mapi32.dll in Windows\system and copied the one off of the Office 97 CD (from the Win95 directory). After doing that i get the message:
OUTLOOK executed an invalid instruction in
module at 0000:0000001b.

bff7017f 6c1736f0 ...I also installed Office service pack 2. I was of no help with this problem.
I down loaded a file from http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?mapi32, but Winzip says that the format is incorrect and will not unzip it.
Any help is appreciated.
thanks,
patp.s. sorry if this has been answered, but i read almost all of the posts regarding mapi32.dll and Outlook startup problems. Some seemed right on, but i think that i had already done what was suggested, so i'm at a loss. ... pat

Are you sure that the file you downloaded was a zip file? Try renaming it to .dll and see what happens if you put it in the systems folder. Make sure to move the original copy of mapi32.dll to the desktop or something just in case something goes wrong.
You may also try reinstalling it. Put in the office cd and only install Outlook and nothing else. That should fix the problem.
Hope that helps.
Kevin.

Thanks Kevin. The zip file was definitely named mapi32.zip; i don't know why my copy of WinZip doesn't like it. Downloading it again didn't help. I didn't want to simply rename it to mapi32.dll, it is way too small (177Kb) to be the real mapi32.dll (709Kb). I think.
I tried reinstalling Outlook and still it won't start up. Some time along the line the error detail has changed to:
OUTLOOK caused an invalid page fault in
module OUTLRPC.DLL
