Outlook 97 - unable to send email

Comment:
I have just installed Office97 and Outlook97 on my Windows Me. I am able to receive emails but am unable to send messages in either Outlook and Outlook Express. I get the error messages: "mail.hostname.com not found" in Outlook and "unable to connect to server" in Outlook Express. I have checked all the settings in both for "My Outgoing server requires authentication" and this is not checked. I downloaded and applied Office SR2 patch but the problem persists.

"mail.hostname.com not found" is for incoming mail.
Outgoing mail is usually "smtp.hostname.com"
Check the settings again to make sure they are correct.
Otherwise it is possible that the mail server is down or offline. Check with your ISP.
