Outlook 2007 deletes inbox emails

I have Outlook 2007 configured with 2 email accounts (one POP and one IMAP). I have no problems with either account except for this one.

Outlook randomly deletes emails from my POP account's Inbox. Occasionally, if I catch it in time, I'll see the emails in my Deleted Items folder before it's emptied. Unfortunately, I usually find out when the emails are missing from my inbox. I don't know how often this happens.

Strangely, there is ONE email that will never be deleted (it was the first email I ever received on the account). The rest will be deleted randomly if I don't carefully check the deleted items folder and move them back to the inbox.

There is ABSOLUTELY no reason for this. I rarely access this inbox, have no rules set up that would do this, and no one else is accessing the computer.

This must be an Outlook 2007 issue, right? I've never seen anything like this before...

Are you positive the emails are going into your Deleted Items? How often do you empty your deleted items? What is the "Current View" of your Inbox?

I'd try setting a rule to move all new email sent to the POP account to a separate folder and see what happens.

100% positive. I caught it deleting one email over and over whenever I checked (every couple hours maybe?). It would show up in the Deleted Items folder, I would move it back to the Inbox, and it would show up in Deleted Items again.

I had Outlook set to automatically empty the deleted Items folder on exit (though I've since changed that setting).

I'll set up that rule to move a copy to another folder (to at least save the messages), but then I'll leave the original items in the Inbox to see when they're deleted.

How do I go about reporting this to Microsoft? Or to a wider audience that might be able to troublehsoot this?

I've never seen this behavior and a search of the MSKB yields no results. If you really want to report it, go to MS's KB website and select the option to Contact a Support Professional.

Thanks, Jennifer. Since I employed the rules you recommended, the behavior is even easier to track. Today, I've kept about 5 emails in my POP Inbox, and have had to "rescue" them from the Deleted Items folder THREE times today. It's insane! I go back to the Deleted Items folder a couple hours, and there they are again! The only thing I did before this happened is to click on the messages to make them no longer be marked as unread. Next time, I'll try to leave it marked as unread and see if the same thing happens.

Two strange things:
1) The first email I have there is completely unaffected by this. It will NOT be moved into the Deleted Items folder, even though everything else is.
2) This has NO EFFECT on my IMAP folders. Those work fine, even when I move a copy of the POP Inbox, there are NO adverse effects in the IMAP folders.

I am definitely going to report this. Thanks!

By the way, I just went to MS KB... and they're going to charge me to help troubleshoot their software? That's crazy!

I've got the same problem as posted above, and there is no documentation anywhere! Anyone figured this out yet?
