Every time I compose or reply to an email message, and then attach a file, Outlook crashes.

When I click the button to attach a file, the dialog box comes up, and the mouse shows that the computer is thinking. Then, windows says that outlook is not responding and then Windows tells me that Outlook has encountered an error and needs to close. I can send a regular email message without attaching file. And I can do everything except attaching a file.

I have restarted my computer and outlook, but it still doesn't work. And I have searched Google, and I do not want to pay $50.00 to call MS. Please help me! Thanks.

This may be a long shot, but are you on a network with networked drives?

The other day I started getting messages at startup that said something like "Could not complete all network connections". I could access all my files, so I ignored it.

Then I noticed that when I would chose Save As from an office program and click on the down arrow to change the location of where the file would save, my system would hang, the program would become non-responsive and I would have to force-quit.

I finally decided to address the "network drive" issue and it turned out that a corporate drive that I no longer used (but I was still connecting to) had been taken off line. As soon as I deleted the drive from my network connections folder, all my Save As problems went away.

Could it be that you have a network drive that is no longer "valid" and it is crashing Outlook when it tries to open the attachment window and load all of your paths?

No. I do not have any network drives. I have my main HDD which Windows is installed on and a secondary (Slave) HDD which I use to store everything else.

Ok, I found my problem, now I just need to fix it. I read an article online that said that some people have problems with Outlook and malware. I used this MS Office diagnostics program that looked for problems with the Office software. It found one problem, under the "setup" category. So it said it fixed it, and I rebooted the PC. Then, when I go to open Outlook, an error message comes up saying something about Outlook not being able to open because of Malware. So I am scanning the PC now with Grisoft AVG. Will that take care of the Malware?

Have you installed Office 2007 SP1?

AVG did not find anything. I will try "Malware Sweeper". Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Thanks

I think that I have installed SP1 for office. I did all of that right after I installed the suite. I will confirm that I do have it installed. Thanks.

Now I am worried, (not that I wasn't a couple hours ago). The same problem is still happening. Even after I have removed the Malware. (I think). Do you have any more suggestions? I need to make sure that the malware scanner scanned my secondary drive which Office is installed on.

Thanks

I scanned the other drive, but it still does not work. I need to figure out what is going on here. I might pay MS $50.00 to help me fix it.

I just looked to see if any new updates were available for my computer and Office SP1 is not installed. In fact, it had tried to install several times by itself, but failed. How do I get it to update? Will safe mode with networking do the job?

I think you need to take care of the spyware issue first and foremost. You may want to start a new thread in the Security/Virus forum. jabuck is really good about helping people there.

Thanks. I will post there. I just can't seem to get rid of this Malware. Although, Outlook is now letting me attach files, which is good. But I think that the Malware is still there. But I did not even do anything that might make Outlook respond again.
