Just recently Outlook 2003 stopped recieving all the mail from my POP3 server. (Had 6, but only 4 arrived). (Then had 2 online payments arrive in Webmail, but both disappeared when trying to download into Outlook). The mail was recieved by my ISP web mail (HughesNet), but when I try to get it from my ISP I doesn't arrive. The mail works fine between my ISP web and my army account. I have repaired Office from my D//: and tried "Detect & Repair" from Outlook Help. Just had 4 more come in to webmail, but only one came into Outlook. Help!

Have you confirmed your incoming server is correct? What are your server timeouts set to?

Thanks Jennifer for contacting me back. I contacted my ISP and went over the settings and everything was ok. The server timeout is set at 1 minute.

Can you please explain why that might work? I don't undersatnd the implications of this, however I will do it as it is easy to change one way or the other.

If the checking of the incoming messages times out, it will start over again, thus preventing downloading of messages if that process takes more than a minute.

Increasing the timeout may help as there are more sunspots now than before and Hughes is satellite isn't it?

Coming home from very lonely places, all of us go a little mad: whether from great personal success, or just an all-night drive, we are the sole survivors of a world no one else has ever seen.

Thanks for the information. However, that didn't work. I recieved 3 messages in my web mail and only was delivered after I closed webmail and opened Outlook. Yes, Hughes is satelite internet. What else can we try as I am pulling my heair out over this. My next attempt will be to completely uninstall office and reinstall it, but you know that is a pain.

Ok, I increased my timeout and it seemed to help, but still not sure if that's the problem. While I was in the Advanced Settings I came across the box the says, "Leave a Copy of the Messages on the Server". What server and how can I access them after being saved there?

The Server is your ISP's incoming mail server. Leaving the messages on the server does just that. That means that if you don't have the configuration set to "Delete when emptied from Trash" or "Delete from server after...days" the emails will stay on the server. Meaning, you can use webmail to then download the same messages you've already downloaded to Outlook or any other email client.

Same goes for the web interface. Your ISP should offer the option to leave the messages on the server or delete from server after downloading using the Web interface.

If you have that option disabled on the webmail side, and you've downloaded the messages using webmail, that would totally explain why you're not getting them in Outlook.
