Suddenly (after a prolonged power cut) Outlook 2003 won't start because it was not shut down properly (while wireless broadband was connected) and errors have been detected in the Outlook.pst file.

I cant get scanpst.exe to diagnose and repair errors in the file because it does not recognise my Outlook.pst file when I type in the correct name and path.

Have used search function to find both Scanpst.exe and Outlook.pst on my laptop but cannot locate either manually. I have enabled hidden files to be viewed.

In Outlook Properties/Compatibility Mode my options are all pre Windows XP so I have left the box unticked.

It's OK guys ... I sorted it myself !

Managed to surmount the problem of the missing link (my Outlook.pst file unable to be located in place on hard drive that search function shows it is in). Scanpst.exe was rejecting the file for this reason.

After much head scratching I found a way around the issue. I simply right clicked on the found Outlook.pst file in Search to create a desktop shortcut. Then in Scanpst.exe dialogue box clicked : browse/desktop/Outlook.pst shortcut .... and it worked !!!

Never thought I'd be so pleased to hear that sound of scanning. Errors in the file were found and fixed. Now I'm backing up my Outlook.pst file weekly onto hard drive and USB !
