Try testing the server first to see that the DNS or server has not been changed.
Open a command prompt and type "telnet host.domain 110" just change the "host.domain" to your email server name, you should get a HELLO in the prompt if the server name is correct or working. You can also test the sending by swaping the 110 for 25.

It was an old query posted by "biojoe" and was the only reference I could find to this problem, which seems to be more prevalent in Outlook 2007. Since then, after 3 days, it suddenly came good ! But I'm still concerned about the cause if it comes back..
