I have Outlook 2003 and when there is a lot of messgaes in the inbox, it takes ages to display each of the messages.
I have thought about changing the default HTML messages to just plain text and would like to know how i change the receive settings from HTML to plain text.
The other reason behind this is i keep gettting spam messages which use images in HTML format

you could try
tools / options / mail format
Compose in this format & change to rich text.
Also tools / options / security
Change automatic download settings to don't down load images in html messages, this would help speed up viewing emails.
I would also download & run ad-aware (free version from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
and check to see if you have lots of adware
