Outlook 2003 Contacts issue

I run Outlook 2003. I have several custom Contacts folders under "My Contacts" including the default "Contacts" folder. When I add a new contact to one of the custom folders I will copy it to what I think is my main Contacts folder so all my contacts are available to me in one place as well as in the individual custom folders. My problem is as follows: When I do the above, the new "contact" will appear in a second "Contacts" list at the bottom of my main Contacts list (It's like there is a second main Contacts folder that receives these copied contacts). Can anyone explain why this is happening? I enter my new contact in a custom contact folder, I hit "Edit" and then "Copy to folder" and I then select "Contacts". But then the new contact is in this second "Contacts" folder, and not in what I think is my default "Contacts" folder. If I enter the new contact in my "default" Contacts folder first and then copy it to a custom folder, it works fine. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
