Hi,
Whenever I try to send a message via Microsoft Outlook 2003 the Auto address feature is not working properly. If I start to type an email address it will not automatically display a list of contacts that it could possibly be. If I enter the email address fully, it will remember it next time I email that person. However, if I log off the name isn't saved and I have the same problem again.
I have gone to Tools --> Options --> E-mail Options --> Advanced Email Options and made sure the options 'Automatic name checking' and 'suggest names while completing To, CC and Bcc fields' is checked.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be as I'm testing it with a test account and it works fine, just not mine.

Check and see what the entry are for the "Display As" and "File As" Fields. Whatever is in the "File As" field is all you need to type. That's the whole point of having those fields; so that it's not necessary to type in the entire address. The "Display As" entry is what will show after you type in that File As name.

Right. That's what's supposed to happen. You're confusing Auto-complete with Contacts. They are not the same. The auto-complete will only pick up an email in your contacts folder if you've already typed it in the To: field. It's not designed to work in conjunction with your Contacts. It's to maintain a list of previously entered addresses.
So, what you're experiencing is normal and by design.
Life is more painless for those who are brainless.
