Outlook 2003 and other email client

i installed SP2 and ever since then when i open outlook it checks my emails fine for once. then if go back to it later it says unable to connect to pop server. so i uninstalled SP2 but its still doing the same i have repaired the office installtion but made no difference. What could be the problem. also if i try to send a message it says unable to connect to SMTP as well. might it be i have to completey remove office and reinstall rather that repair the install any help you be much apprecitated :-)
