I've been having a problem where I only receive email about every 30min. I get nothing and then all at once I'll get all the messages that were sent during that time. Now when I switch to another folder and then back to Inbox the messages come in as well. However I can't do that all the time and would like them to come in normal. I've been told to look through the options and set outlook to check mail every x minutes but I can't find that anywhere in options. I'm running Outlook 2000 so it may be different. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
This might help you:
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Internet E-mail Tab. Select Scheduling: Click "Check my local network connection(s) for new mail every x minutes.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Mark

Hi again,
It's a long time since I've used outlook but try this
- Start Outlook, and on the Tools menu, click Services. On the Services tab, click Internet E-mail information service, and click Properties. If Internet E-mail is not listed, click Add, click Internet E-mail, and click OK.
Then select Scheduling: Click "Check my local network connection(s) for new mail every x minutes.
Hope I've got it right this time

I use Outlook 2000 and have the same trouble. It just started a couple months ago and is very irritating. If you want to set it to send/receive more often, go to TOOLS, OPTIONS, MAIL DELIVERY and mid page it will ask how often you want it to check for e-mail.
My guess is that this is not your problem at all. Have you noticed that after sending an e-mail, you can't delete without restarting? Or does yours not show the e-mail as read until after you shut down and restart? The problem appears to be that MS Outlook is not updating regularly. It acts as if you are sharing MS Outlook with another user, so it won't cycle as usual because someone else is in the same folder as you. In my case this is definately not the problem, although this is the only explanation that the MS website gives you.
Good luck, if I find the answer I will let you know.
Thanks.

I'm not having the same problem as you. It still lets me delete and shows things that are read as read. I feel like I'm missing buttons though. I can't see the mail delivery button anywhere. Under tools then options I have a mail services tab but no mail delivery. It has check for new mail on: microsoft exchange server. Nothing about how often to check though.
