InstallShield Is Crashing On Setups

  • 0

Most of the setups I run (about 90%) crash right after opening (I double-click setup.exe and right after it a message pops up says “setup.exe has stopped working”. When I press “close the program”, the same window pops up again : setup.exe has stopped working), or after running the setup.exe – a little window pops up and says “InstallShield Wizard will now guide you through the rest of the setup” or something like that, and I see the “advance meter” (the percent that the setup preparing has done). It always gets stuck after it has completed a quarter or a half, not responding for about 40 seconds, then giving me an unhandled exception (dont remember the error number too well,, something like 0x80040 and a few more numbers)

Also, I found a possible solution to this problem on the InstallShield homepage. I downloaded the needed version (11), and when I’m trying to run it, again, immidiatley after opening, again a message pops up twice : “setup.exe has sopped working”/

This is really freaking me out. Hours spent on searching for a possible solution to this problem lead to no result. Can anyone help me solve this problem?

Thanks!

  1. I do not specifically know the games and if they are really old, they may not be compatible with Windows 7. There are two things you should try, first install a program that you know is modern like Firefox, openoffice, or something else you know is current and trusted. If it installs fine, then the system is fine and you should try installing then under compatibility mode. If the modern trusted program does not install then you need to do a system restore to a date before anyone tried installing any of these games and try the test again. Compatibility mode can often allow you to run older programs, but if the program or installer tries to do something that Windows 7 cannot allow, then it will still fail or cause other problems.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
