Opening Docx files with OpenOffice

Is there a way to open docx, xlsx or any of the other files from the new Microsoft Office 2007 with OpenOffice? Or did they make those file types to prevent users with OpenOffice from integrating with Office 2007? Or is the answer more complicated than that :) This is a challenge posting by CNChallenger.

Take a look at Open Office 3 I don't use it, but here's what it says at: http://www.openoffice.org/product/w... From version 3.0 WRITER can also open .docx files created with Microsoft Office 2007 or Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac OS X.
