Specs: Windows 7
Hi, I have recently lost my son and the hospital gave us a disc of photos. Unfortunalty we cant open them as they have saved it as a shortcut. I have tried and also asked computer experts etc, but they all say its impossible. I am desperate as this is all i have left of him. If anyone can help, id be forever grateful.

We're sorry for your loss.

You didn't supply a filename or the extension used or the properties, so I'm just taking a shot here...

If the hospital supplied you with a list of shortcuts or even a single shortcut to a file, then you didn't get the files that contain the pictures. All that you received was a "pointer" to the file and unless your computer can find the file, nothing will open.

You have to either obtain the actual files themselves or be given access to the files wherever they happen to reside - assuming you have a path to those files.

I am not familiar with Windows 7, but when you put the CD in the drive, can you look to see how many files and folders there are on the CD.

Also, can you right click on the drive icon (CD's often show as Drive D:) and look for properties and see what how much used space is on the CD.

This may give some idea of whether there is more than just the shortcut stored on the CD.
