Where on the Internet could I download an Office XP trial or what do I have to do to get one I could use?
The office I have is Office 97 and I'm planning on upgrading to the latest MS Office Software that runs on Window98 Second Edition.
Thanks!

Take a look here:

alternatively type 'office xp trial' into a search engine.
M

"alternatively type 'office xp trial' into a search engine."
I did that on Google using microsoft.com as the search site ('office xp trial' site:support.microsoft.com)
I don't see a link for the trial's download but there is a sponsored ad on the Google results page in the right hand column that has that "too good to be true" look to it.
(You know what they say..."If it looks too good to be true then it probably is")
Office XP Pro for $60
($80 for Office XP Pro and Windows XP Pro)I went to the next step and clicked on the "Buy" button where you input your credit card and shipping information. That page is a non-secured page and the seller is in Eastern Europe. That is as far as I went.
I tried calling Google Sales in Boston to ask them about the ad but it must be too early in the day to get anyone there. I will try them again later.

I have in another search located the MS page for Office 2003 trial version.
http://www.microsoft.com/office/editions/prodinfo/trial.mspxRegards,
Bryan

From that same page is Office Professional Edition 2003 System Requirements which notes for OS as Microsoft Windows® 2000 with Service Pack 3 (SP3), Windows XP, or later being a requirement to use the Trial version.
Bryan

'M', that trial looks good, but in Spanish. I was after it in the English language, but thanks anyway if that's all you have found thus far. If there is a way to convert it into English though properly then its okay
I guess. So Bryco, are you saying that is someplace you would buy from then or not? Like if they are good company, but I don't know if I trust a place as much online that doesn't encrypt the transactions n stuff. I think you got me sort of confused from what you were saying.
I also read on that site you had there some and it doesn't have the manual on that site. Sometimes the office manuals have been proven to be useful, but I could have the manual in something like an acrobat pdf file and that would be fine if everything else is just fine and dandy.

Brady,
As far as the manual is concerned...the Help files work good. Beyond that, forum boards are good for information.
I did not get a chance to call Google sales to ask them about their knowledge of the owners of their advertisements.
What I am saying is that the WinXP plus Office XP package for $80 is very attractive to me but I did not go through with the process because I don't have enough trust to give them (whomever they are in Eastern Europe) my credit card information.
We, in society have seen so much spam that it is getting difficult to tell the difference between scams and good sales. Spike TV has a lot of ads that seem like spam as we are used to seeing in our email inboxes. Because they are on TV (or on Google) does that make them anything less than a scam and just spam. Is Spike TV or Google liable for endorsing their sponsors? Somehow I don't think they are; it's just revenue to them.
"If it looks too good to be true then it probably is"
Even if it all checks out as Okay then I doubt very much that I would still make the purchase for the simple reason that I can not believe that the sale would be sanctioned by MS or else they would offer the same price here in the USA.
I will persue this again next week but not for the purpose of making a a purchase but for my own piece of mind in regards to advertisements in general. Is it only a matter of time that these types of ads make their way into the mainstream such as appearing on CBS or ABC. When they do are we to believe that they have checked them out and we are safe to do business with them? Revenue is revenue to big corporations.
My two questions are:
1. Does Google (or ABC, NBC and CBS) 'endorse' their advertisers? Or, is there any code of ethics that their advertisers must adhere to?2. Can I protect myself through communication with my credit card company with regards to an individual purchase or set of transactions?
(I just got off the phone with my credit card company and in a nut shell I could protect myself in similar transactions as noted above, as I suspected. I can dispute any charge.)
Bryan

I just got off of the phone with Goolge Sales department.
They do not require any ethical standards in order to advertise on their site.
They do have a complaint department in the event of a problem for which they will forward the complaint to the party whom is offering the product.
Regards,
Bryan

Well isn't there an English trial of Office XP out there that I could just download like Office 2003 that's out there? I mean any version of Office XP...Just to let you know I'd use the Office 2003 trial, but it won't run, on Win98 Se, right?
Has Microsoft Screwed the Windows 98 SE people now in the Office Software...so they can't even try out any of the latest office software now???

Brady,
I think that you are maybe being a little unfair to your self and to Microsoft.Ford doesn't come up with inovative ideas for six year old cars, Sears don't support six year old snow blowers and MS doesn't support six year old operating systems.
Of the three examples I would say MS provides the most support.
All of these companies are focused on today or tomorrow and not yesterday.
I don't think Nintendo will come out with any new games for Nintendo 64 either."OS: Win98se
CPU/Ram: AMD K62 400 with 128 Ram"Like me, we are a little behind the times.
I paid over $1,600 when mine was new. Add on two newer hard drives, a new and upgraded processor and the sticks of RAM (among other items) I am closer to $2,400. Over six years that's $400 per year.
You can buy a new and up to date PC for $400.
We cling to our PCs like we keep that snowblower or old car running. I would like a new PC, but why, when the one I have runs so good.
Newer PC's run at 2.8Ghz and use NTFS. These folks have no reason or inspiration to cater to us folks whom remain in the past.
Will IE7 not run on less than Win2K? Will the internet not work on less then IE7 in two years?
Who is to blame; AMD and Intel or MS for trying to stay ahead of things?
As far as 'new technology' goes... I am still waiting for my personal jet pack.
I suspect the Spanish version has the same requirements as the English version.
I would like to try out a couple of Sony PlayStation 2 games on my Nintendo GameCube and can't but nobody is out to screw me.
If you want to play GameCube and only have a SNES console then you can't unless you try it on a friends GameCube similarly you may want to find a friend that has Office 2K3 or XP and try it out on their new and updated machine.
BTW, I use Office 97 and it still works fine. I hear Office 2K3 and XP offer very little more than Office 97 or Office 2K.
HTH

I guess what you and Microsoft together are saying is that Windows 98 SE is worthless now. I think Mircosoft designed their newest software just so it would only run on the versions of windows they support now. Screw it, if I want a version of that there are different methods...

"I guess what you and Microsoft together are saying is that Windows 98 SE is worthless now."
I am not saying that at all. MS would like us all to fork up the dough for their latest and greatest so they can come out with yet another new version. They don't really do it for us. They are in business to make money.
I orginally had Win98FE and had some things I couldn't do because the minimum requirement was Win98SE. I upgraded. It works just fine.
There are some things I can not do on my PC because it is too old. Some games I can not play because I only have an 8Mb onboard video device. Is the game makers at fault for not making their games playable on this punie video device. Should they make their games so they can be played in DOS or on Win3.1. No. Because there is better out there and they want to cater to the higher end devices for the better quality.
When I bought mine it was the top of the line until one month later.
There are some things that need the extra processing or OS power in order to run. They couldn't work on the older machines.
It is not a personal vendetta against you and your outdated machine (like mine and most everyone else viewing this board).
I have an above ground 20' round pool. I would like to have a diving board but I will have to upgrade to an inground 8' deep pool in order to have one but my current works fine and I can not justify the extra cost to upgrade.
Bryan

Be happy with the things you do have and not worry about those that you can not.
I don't know why it is/was so important for you to have the trial version. Maybe get an earlier version of Office. There are free alternatives to Office such as Open Office ~80Mb and 602Suite ~25Mb (used to be ~14). They are both compatible with Office.
Bryan

Think I'll go with the Alternatives then...I'm sick of Microsoft's prices on their Office Software too...what they think its made of gold...lol?
