Hi all. i have a question. is the student /teacher edition.. something that needs to be activated in order to use it or what?? one of my friends said he bought it and he didnt have to and is using it...I am not a "traditional" student per se.. in the sense i am getting college credits. i am taking some education courses at work and would like to be able to use this if possible.. so what is the deal on this with activation?/ does it mean you cannot use it after so many days like XP unless you register it or what?? I have tried to find out info but have been unsuccessful in doing so. thanks : )

I don't know the correct answer but personally I would want to register the product so that I would be able to have the MS support. Otherwise you can not.

The morality is not controlled in registering or not registering the product it lies in your understanding of the license agreement.

I have been using the Student version of Office 97 since 1998. At the time I had a two year old whom attended daycare that was also a school. I was able to wrestle with my morals. The MS police never came to my house to check either.

The license stipulates that you must uninstall it after the schooling stops. My child is now in second grade and has a long way to go.

Other than the license agreement the product is the same.

Go ahead and register it.

Bryan

I was told that MS just requires you to have a student or a teacher in the house and I have both so I bought XP 2002 version of Office student teacher. I guess it's there way of giving students and under paid teachers a break. The office store required no proof and after I installed it I registered it and again no proof was required. The only thing is you can only install it on one computer. I think if you try and install on to another computer it will have a count down for 30 days or something and I am guessing if you have the regular expensive version of office you can install it on more than one computer? My son needed excell for some at home school work and I thought I would have to buy the expensive office until I found out about this and it's worked well and I paid $100 for it.

God knew I couldn't be a pioneer, that's why he gave me a computer!
