Office keeps crashing after exiting

Hi,

Every once in a while, Office crashes when I exit. It doesn't give me an error message it just starts a recovery process. I don't know what could be causing this. The only things I have open are IE8 and Outlook Express when I work in Word. The version I have is Word XP Pro 2002. Can anyone give me thoughts as to what is causing this? I did a repair and it worked ok for a bit and then started again. I haven't done an install yet. The last thing I did was the updates and added Word Live but I am not sure if that is what is the root cause.

Thanks!

when I work in Word.

I take it, that only Word is causing you grief, none of the other components of Office?

How often is "once in a while"?
Is it only on a specific document or template?

Try deleting the Normal.dot file.

Close Word and do a search of your computer for normal.dot file and delete it.
If there is more than one, rename or delete ALL of them.
When you launch Word, it will look for normal.dot and since it can't find it, it will recreate a new clean one.
Be aware that the normal.dot file is a hidden system file and may not show up when you do a search for it.
If you are unable to find it,
Go to My Computer
Click the Tools menu
Choose Folder Options.
Click on the View Tab
Put a check where it says, "Show hidden files and folders"
and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"
and "Hide protected operating system files".

If you still can't find it, try looking here:
C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
