I set up MSOffice 97 doing an administrator installation on NT4 server. This went successfully. i then logged onto a windows XP SP2 workstation. The account is a domain admins account with local admin rights. i ran set-up and it all seemed to go ok, but there were three set up messages at the end.

I did a full install, installing everything to the local hard disk, all programs, tools and utilities.
#1 : Set up is updating the system (Not an error)
#2 : htmlmarq.ocx was unable to register itself in the system registry.
#3 : Microsoft Office97 Professional Setup was not completed successfully.

It didn't seem to make any difference at first. i could run all the office programs and it seemed OK. But i then logged on to the same workstaion, but with a restricted user account. Word, Excel and Access all work OK and seem properly registered.

Word works OK but there is no spelling or grammer tools (they are greyed out)

Powerpoint works OK, but it says in the about box
Registered to unknown user and uninstalled version and unknown product ID

Photoeditor doesn't work but it does start up.
Error : No file format information can be found in the registry
No pictures can be opened as they are all unrecognised format.

Outlook doesn't start at all
The programis not registered properly. Please run setup again. You don't have appropriate permission to perform this operation.

The programs all run ok if the person has administrator privilidges, and only occurs if you log on as a restricted user. i would like to fix the error without changing the priviliges of the account.

You don't have to change the accounts. Just correct the permissions on the Microsoft Office folder and any other files (contained in the Windows directory) that require additional privileges.

Thanks Jennifer for your help, i would like to try it out, but could you just explain which microsoft office folder? The one on the network or the one on the local computer.

When i installed the program, i was logged on as a domain admin with local admin rights, but it still came up with that error. However, users with local admin rights can use all the software, so i suppose i just need to change all the permissions on the local msoffice folder. But do i just remove the full control permission?
