Everytime I open a document in Word or Excel, I get the message: "<doc name> is being used by <owner's name> do you want to make a copy?"
All I have to do is click "No" and go about my merry way, but it is growing tiresome. any suggestions?
BTW, none of the doc's I'm trying to open are hidden, read-only, or have recently crashed.

Close all documents and close Word. Check the folder where you word document is. If there are any files there with ~$ at the begining, delete them. They will only be short 1K files. These contain information about open documents and there presence fools Word into thinking the document is still open. They should be deleted when the document is closed but sometimes get left behind.
