At the end of what I thought was a successful install of Off. 97 Professional from the original disk, I received the following error message, "Htmlmarq.ocx was unable to to register itself in the system registry." And then, "Office 97 was not installed successfully." So far, I have only used Word to a limited extent and I am not sure if it has affected all of Office's functions but I did notice that when I tried to run Resume Wizard, and subsequently Visual Basic Editor, I get the message, "The Visual Basic environment could not be initialized. Please run setup to install it correctly." And after clicking "OK" it says "Word could not fire event." But after another install I get the same htmlmarq.ocx error message. I tried to uninstall Office and got the following message, "The Setup configuration file 'C:\ PROGRA~1\MI1933~1\OFFICE\SETUP\Off97Pro.STF is missing or corrupted. Try running Setup again from where you originally ran it." Please, help.

Thank you Mr. Saunders, I appreciate the quick response, but when I tried to uninstall, I got the above error message. And that is part of the problem. Someone else had similar difficulties from over a year ago, that I located in computing.net's database. So I thought that "reposting," as it were, would lead me to solving an annoying situation. However, Microstft's database of solutions aren't as inclusive as i had hoped. Be that as it may, I again thank you for your advice and hope.

Try a Repair of Office. It's also possible that the CD is damaged.

im not sure if office 97 is suitible for xp you could try pucrchacing a newer vertion. search for viruses and spyware and use a registry cleaner like "registry booster". Then see iff it works if not try to reinstall and it miht work with your computer clean if not there might be another problem that i heard microsoft dosent do customer support or updates any more for 97/98. Enter a hijakthis log and ill try to sort out any vuruses and if it is somehow allready open.

Hope this helps

Mr Saunders

I had the same problem when installing it on XP SP2. It is installed but you have to find the programs Winword.exe etc. in the Microsoft Office folder on the hard drive. If you install it with SP1 it works fine. Microsoft is wierd.
