office 2003 files not open 0ffice 07

Specs: Windows XP, Intel Core (TM) Duo CPU T2600 @ 2.16GHz 2.17 GHz 2 GB Ram
i have installed office 2007 and removed 2003, now word, power point files work, but still excel files have no icon and when i click on open with, excel is not in the list when i browse there i have to go to c:/program files(86)/Microsoft / office 12/ excel.exe, when i click it does not work.
i can open these files when i open excel and go to open file or drag excel file to it.

but the problem is that office files have no icon and excel is not and cannot associated with them as default program.

what is the resolution

Put the Office 2007 cd back in and do a 'repair' to add the missing components that you want.
