I have been copying data from the net and pasting to excel and sorting as required, no problems for years.
Now its not working, I have not changed anything and have scanned for viruses, also run AVG, SpyBot, and have SpywareGuard and MS anti-spyware on board.
I think I need some help from an expert....Please...

I "select all" on the web page and then select"Copy", go to the Excel blank page I have open, select a cell and select paste.
All I get the egg timer, then a bit later, the message about this program is not responding.
I have been doing this for years, but now it will not paste???
Any idea what may have have caused the change?

What sort of data are you trying to copy?
What method of "paste" are you using?
Can you try "Paste Special" and tell us what options you are given?
Are there many hyperlinks or frames on the page you are copying?
Which browser are you using?
Which version of Excel are you using?

Hi A Certain TH,
The data is in a table form, typical bank statement.
My copy and paste method has been right click> select all> copy.
Then open a new blank Excel worksheet, select a cell and right click> paste,
this has worked just fine till now. When I select "Paste Special" I get the full set of options including 'all'
There are no hyperlinks, not sure what frames are, sorry. but it looks like a typical table doc.
My browser is IE-6 and all updates have been installed.
My version of Excel is part of Word 2000 Pro.
As I said it was working just fine, but now it will copy [from internet page]and paste to Excel worksheet...
The Odd thing is that I can copy the copy the text here on this post and paste it into a worksheet as described above, but not from the internet page with the table format...
I hope this helps to define the problem.

Hmm.. is it actually a bank statement? If so, it is possible that the page is forbidding you to copy it, since this could have security implications.
When you "select all", can you see that the elements in the table have been highlighted?
Is the data truly presented as a table (in html), rather than a graphical representation of the table (ie. a picture of it) [[easiest way to check, is to right click the table, and if you can choose "Save as..." then do so, and take note of what file type it tried to save as... ie ".jpg", ".gif", etc]]
Can you post a link to the table? Does it look like the kind of tables on this page: LINK
I don't want you to post your actual bank statement, obviously! so if that is what it is, then can you have a quick hunt around on the net for another table which gives you the same problem, and post a link to that? (This might not be easy...!)
Post back when you can
Tom

Hi A Certain TH
It is a bank statement, but it has never been a problem in the past and no notification from the bank re any changes, I don't know of any bank that will not let you copy details of your own account.
Banks tend not to have security problems with this as the information can only be accessed after log in, and this is a display only account so minimal risk.
When I "select all", the elements in the table are all highlighted?
The Properties are as follows:-
Protocol: HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy.
Type : Not Available.
Connection:TLS 1.0, RC4 with 128 bit encryption (High); RSA with 1024 bit exchange
I don't get the option to "Save as..." when I right click.
The link looks like this
https://www.<bank name>.com/INETBANK/TXNHistoryPrintView.aspYes the table is very much like that in your link.
I will have a look around and see if I can find a link with tables that look the same and post back, soon I hope LOL.
And thanks for your help to date, this driving me nuts....
