What sort of reinstall did you do? I had a quick look through your previous posts but didn't see a mention of reinstallation, in fact your posts are becoming very confusing, I think you should really stick with one issue at a time, that's why multi-thread posting isn't recommended, it's confusing for you and everyone else.

Please do not delete I am trying to summarize my problems in one thread. This statement is for the moderators and not the people just viewing the post.

I do not know if I can repost. They delete them.

Also since I have so many problems I did not know if I had to have different threads.

I am new to this site.

I apologize. My problems with my computer are complex at least to me they are.

The main problem that I wrote about in one post was that my computer was running slow.

I compressed my files and in the process of compressing files I started to have problems. I could not delete some files and had to delete whole folders instead.

Also I lost some files and I did not delete them.

I know that is strange and unusual but it did happen.

It was dumb of me to compress the files because I had to extract them again

I had installed Windows 7 and the resolution was screwy and I needed to uninstall Windows 7 to Windows XP.

This is the other issue.

I had to reinstall Windows XP because Windows 7 did not work for my computer. I had resolution problems.

I had backed up all my files and e-mails before I reinstalled Windows XP.

I did this with the e-mails as well in a pst folder but cannot recover them.

The other issue was if I should build a customized computer instead of just buying a new one so I hopefully can upgrade easier than with the computer I have now.

The last issue was about VPN because if I would buy a computer that has cloud computing I do want to have some privacy.

I read it on a technology privacy website to get a VPN for those computers.

Assuming you reinstalled Office/Outlook, how are you trying to recover the emails from the backed up pst file?

What version of Outlook are you using?

I am trying to get the e-mails back from Microsoft Outlook 2007.

I do not remember how I wanted to retrieve them since it was a long time ago. I only remember using a Repair Toolbox from Microsoft. I thought that once you create the pst folder that I just click on it and I would have the e-mails.

I still want to back up my new e-mails but since I cannot recover the ones I already backed up I am hesitate to even try it again

If you have recovered the .pst file then you need to import it into Outlook - instructions on how to do that are here:

Have you tried recovering emails with some tools available? I suggest you to use Kernel for Outlook PST Repair software. It will scan and repair your pst file and can recover deleted emails also.
