No audio on playing pps

Hewlett-packard / Notebook pc
April 18, 2010 at 11:38:49
Specs: Windows Home Premium 7
Unlike other people complained about PPS sound problem, I had the audio just for few seconds until the factory installed Microfsoft Office--Powerpoint viewer demanding a Product Key( I had 25 times to use this software, that was my first time to use it). As I didn't have the key I could only have video after clicking"Continue" Anybody can help. Winnie Fok

Hi,

Microsoft offer a free PowerPoint Viewer - it does not require a key and is not limited to any number of uses.

You can download it here

Hi Humar

Thanks for your reply. Due to limited space I didn't post all my story with Powerpoint for PPS file. I downloaded Powerpoint 2007 to my old IMB Thinkpad, there was no audio when playing a gmail pps file.To play the same file with my newer HP notebook there are audio & video but no audio after I couldn't provide the product keys. Since I had both video and audio at the beginning, there should be anything missing, I suspect there should be some difference between a full Microsoft Office version and a downloaded version. Hope you or somebody can help. Winnie Fok

Hi,

It is more likely that this is an issue with your 'old' IBM Thinkpad.

There is no reason why PowerPoint obtained from different sources would be different in terms of audio/no audio.

You can try the PP viewer on you Thinkpad. If sound still does not work, then the problem is the Thinkpad.

I presume that the sound in the PP file is embedded. When you saved the PP file that was emailed to you, were there any other files with it - WAV, MP3 etc.

If so, you will need to copy them to the Thinkpad (same directory as the PP file)

Hi Humar

While I was checking my Thinkpad as per your instructions, a reminder of updates popped up. As I checked the details of those updates I found updates for Microsoft Office and Powerpoint. After updating the working of PPS was fine with both audio and video. The reason why updates were not downloaded and installed together with Powerpoint program few days ago is beyond my knowledge. As for my HP Notebook problem, I found out later that it was a preinstalled trial version of Microsoft Office, which has never been activated since I bought the PC Sept. 2009. I solved the problem by clicking the desktop Microsoft Office icon to do the activation. I hope Humar's suggestions and my above experience will help those with similar problems. Humar, thanks again for your time and effort for my problems.

Hi,

Glad to hear that you got it working - not that I helped much - I think that you did it on your own.

Thanks also for the feedback.
