Solved Network Mapping & Peachtree Classic Accounting

November 13, 2015 at 11:27:12
Specs: Windows 7
I am trying to add an additional computer that is running V12 (DOS) Peachtree Classic Accounting. The data files are on another networked computer. I have drive mapped the other computer's hard drive to this computer (that I want to add and thereby access the data files). I get a message: "Another user is currently adding this company to Peachtree Classic Accounting. You cannot access this company until the user has finished."

Recapping, I figured out what was wrong! After successfully drive mapping the "server" hard drive (i.e. the data storage location) so that the client computer "sees" the data location on the server I made a fatal mistake and received this error:

"Another user is currently adding this company to Peachtree Classic Accounting. You cannot access this company until the user has finished."

Three menus down into the DOS program for Peachtree Classic Accounting is where you actually have to redirect the data search to save / retrieve the data. This was a very dumb mistake I made. I still had the data saving and retrieving to / from the client hard drive. Once I redirected the data file(s) location to P: PCA/XXXXX (from within the program on the client) the data was able to be both retrieved and saved.

Found that link also, but it references another link which is dated 2004
and brings up a page "Not Found"

Peachtree does have a web presences at;

http://www.peachtree-support.com/de...

But it apparently changed name, so this might also be of interest:

Yes sirs, I appreciate your help. All the reference links I had previously looked at. I think I will attempt to uninstall and reinstall the software at this point. Very frustrating, but trying to help a friend who does not have a ton of money to invest in his business. Again, thank you for trying - at least it validates that I was looking correctly!

It's actually a good thing to get input from others - it makes you think. Without this board's help I'm not sure I would have finally thought about what I was missing.
