Specs: Windows 98
Hi guys,

I'm using Win98 and Microsoft Office 2003. I was working on an Excel spreadsheet and made stupid mistake, forgot to save it.

So, is there any way to recover that file?

See what others think but I don't feel at all optimistic.

In Word (and I assume Excel) there is an automatic regular backup - set at every 10 minutes by default. However this does not work if you close the document but only if the program crashes. In that situation you re-open Word and a panel appears on the left of the screen which gives you a recovery option. Try re-opening Excel and see if that panel appears (my guess is it won't).

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

✔ Best Answer
Did you Name it before you lost it?
Did you at any time save the file with a name or was it still "Book 1"
If you did name it, then you may be able to recover some of your work,
if it was still unnamed, then I believe you have lost it.

If you gave it a name then:

Go into Excel
That should give you the location where the autorecover save file is.

Navigate to the location and see if you get lucky.
The location may be a Hidden folder so you may need to change your
system folder settings to allow you to see it.

To see hidden files:

Double-click on the My Computer.
Select: View menu
Click: Folder Options.
Select: View tab.
Scroll down until you see the Show all files radio button and select it.

Good luck.
