Hi Gang
I have a cover page that is used on most of the documents that leave our office.
It consists of a graphics emblem with text over it.
It has worked perfectly for eons, now suddenly the text does not print, as if the image is in front of the text.We have tried everything from the simple to the bazaar. Moving the image behind text has not cured the problem.
Copying the document WITHOUT the last paragraph mark, where there is hidden info, to a new document.
Converting and saving in Richtext format then converting Richtext back to an msWORD.doc file, etc.
We went to a backup copy that is not updadted and it prints A-OK, but if we copy this working cover page to the current file, the same problem reoccurs.
This has happened to only two files so far, but it would take months to redo them.
After many days of working with these files, we think the problem is somehow associated with the Header/Footer portion of msWord. Even though there are no header or footer info, in the files where the cover pages will not print, we find the grayed out header/footer boxes on the pages.
Thanks!
Gary

nothing change in options/printing...? nothing about objects/locking...? Do u mean u have a free text zone on an image and that teest doens't print..?

Hi Taxi
We are making some headway with one of the larger documents, but it will never work the same anymore.
It required removing all section breaks and temporarily putting page breaks in there place.
Then removing all images that have text over them throughout the whole document.
Then opening the header/footer box and closing it.
Then copying the document (without the last paragraph marker) to a new document.
Then reinstalling all of those images and moving them to the back or behind text. These steps partially worked on the larger document, but it is still not right. It did not work at all on the smaller document.
We did finally find out what caused this problem to appear in the first place, but ms WORD has no way to undo it, an obvious bug in the program.
If you have text over images, and you use section breaks, and then simply open or click on the header/footer option, then close it. Whether you add anything or not, it destroys the document.
Because the problem was not evident on the screen and only appears when you attempt to print. Our daily backups all the way back to January 2 have been damaged.
Trying to make a new working cover page and then appending it to the existing document, renders the new functional page inoperative.
Trying it the other way, making a new page and appending the remainder of the document to it, causes the same problem on all printers.
Deleting the template files and rebuilding them has had no affect.
What we do know for certain, is that if the grayed out header/footer margins appear on a document, it will not print properly. And ms WORD makes no provision for removing these.
In practice, if a document does not have a header or footer, ms WORD removes the grayed out boxes, but unfortunately, the instructions remain hidden somewhere in the file, so repairs to the file do not help.
New data is added to these documents several times each day, and a backup made each day. But we only print the documents about once each month, so almost a month of backups and new data is lost, plus repairing the documents has failed miserably.
Imagine if you will, the entire layout of a 150 page monthly magazine, and every image within this magazine that has text over any image, the text appears in print preview, but does not print on the printers.
That my friend is the problem we are currently facing! We can build a new cover page. But have found the entire document to be plagued with the same problem on any page with text over images, which is about 85% of the publication.

Woaaaa ! does the same on mine. Did step/step:
have text on 10 lines. Insert picture. format it to be behind text. See before print: ok. Print : ok. Open page header/footer . Greyed appears . Nothin in it. Close . See before print ok. Print : no more text on picture...
Reopen header/footer. Put a single character on header, choose it as white color not to be visualy printed. See before print : ok PRINT : OK !!! did u tried that...?

Hi Taxi
I first tried adding header information in black, the text behind image still did not print.
Removed header info and still the grayed area stayed. After reading your post, I jumped to one of the documents and gave it a try.
Your right as far as the FIRST Page, it will print text over the image now. However, the other 156 pages with text over images won't.We have finally found a work around that is a royal pain, but at least it works, if you happen to run into this problem again.
Place the cover page image into the document within the header/footer command (window) and then move it to the center of the page where it belongs.
The cover page will now print A-OK. And using headers too if you like.
If you make a section break just before each page with a photo with text over it, you can do the same thing, add the photo as a header/footer item and move it. The only problem is, you can't install a fixed size photo box (frame) this way.
But nonetheless, it's still a MAJOR bug in MickeySoft WORD as far as I'm concerned.
I'm glad you were able to duplicate this bug! At least now I know I'm not crazy.
Thanks for giving it a try for me!
